LIFT installs 5-axis machining center

LIFT—Lightweight Innovations For Tomorrow, a national manufacturing innovation institute, has installed a Heller FP 6000 5-axis machining center at its research and manufacturing facility in Detroit.

The system is configured with a pallet changer and simultaneous 5-side machining that uses a swivel head or tilting head kinematics. Its X/Y/Z positioning range is 1,000/1,000/1,300 mm, with a load capacity of 1,400 kg.

With this machine in place, LIFT now can design, produce, and test full-scale parts and components over a large material spectrum, enabling its members to develop and deploy new and advanced materials manufacturing processes and technologies for the metal cutting industry.
