LIFT Hosts Boy Scouts Celebration; Scouts Honor LIFT CEO With Highest Recognition

LIFT hosted the Boy Scouts of America’s Great Lakes Service Council “Discover Your Future” banquet recently to honor adult volunteers and youth leaders and thank them for their hard work and dedication to the Exploring program throughout metro Detroit.

The Exploring program teaches important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentorship provided by community and business leaders. It equips young people with character, leadership and life skills that can be used both today and in their future careers.

The event, emceed by Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley and featuring keynote speaker U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, brought together nearly 150 community stakeholders to celebrate eight adults and youth leaders.

LIFT CEO and Executive Directory Nigel Francis was awarded the William H. Spurgeon Leadership Award, which is the highest recognition for individuals and organizations contributing significant leadership to the Exploring program.

“Everything I have been able to do in my career, from serving as a military officer to working for the Governor of Michigan to leading LIFT started with scouting,” Francis said. “I am extremely grateful for that.”

LIFT is launching an Exploring post of its own in the near future, which will provide career experiences and mentoring in the world of advanced manufacturing.
