LIFT Acquires EOS M 290 Industrial 3D Printer, Welcomes EOS North America as Gold Level member

DETROIT – LIFT, the Detroit-based, Department of Defense-supported national manufacturing innovation institute, today announced that EOS has signed a multi-year member agreement to join the institute as a Gold Level member to support ongoing education and innovation initiatives. EOS is the world’s leading technology provider for additive manufacturing solutions with metals and plastics through 3D printers, materials and software.

Part of the agreement included LIFT’s purchase of EOS’ stalwart EOS M 290 industrial metal 3D printer – the benchmark metal additive manufacturing (AM) system for many industries, including aerospace, spacetech, medical and several others.

With LIFT’s focus on smarter manufacturing – the connection of materials, processes, systems and talent – the EOS membership and printer acquisition are critical pieces to moving both the institute and the U.S. manufacturing industrial base into the future.

“We are thrilled to have EOS North America join the LIFT ecosystem and especially pleased to have one of its state-of-the-art printers onsite to help us advance our materials science and manufacturing process work forward,” said Hadrian Rori, chief technology officer, LIFT. “As we explore more advanced materials, we will utilize more advanced equipment to process and validate those materials, and EOS will be a key part of that.”

The award-winning EOS M 290 employs Direct Metal Laser Solidification (DMLS™) technology. This powder-bed based form of 3D printing ensures maximum part density and exceptional quality. With the most extensive materials portfolio on the market and a powerful 400-watt fiber laser beam for superior detail resolution, the EOS M 290 is ideal for producing highly complex components in a repeatable, production-ready manner for a broad range of applications.

“Adoption of AM as a formidable industrial production process is quickly accelerating across numerous industries,” said Andrew Snow, senior vice president of EOS North America. “Through LIFT’s educational endeavors, our partnership helps enable future generations around cutting edge, advanced technologies and building a base for securing our national manufacturing base.”
