Heroes’ Alliance Students Visit LIFT

Students from Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. and Detroit Collegiate Preparatory at Northwestern visited LIFT in February as part of their work on the Heroes’ Alliance Vehicle Technology Team.

In December, LIFT announced its support of the program in which students are working at a temporary Cooperative Learning Center housed at Focus: HOPE alongside industry professionals to design, build, and test an electric-solar vehicle for a Summer 2018 national competition.
Heroes’ Alliance is a Detroit-based organization whose mission is to build a community of resourced and empowered individuals who see and use education as a path to success.

As part of the visit to LIFT, the students toured the high-bay equipment, played the LIFT virtual reality assembly line game and had the chance to speak with a LIFT engineer about their work on the solar car.

“The students really enjoyed themselves and had lots of great information to share when they returned to the lab,” said Anika Smith, chief executive officers, Heroes’ Alliance. “Speaking with the engineer, seeing the facility and touring the equipment there really opened their eyes to what is possible by continuing to pursue advanced manufacturing careers.”
