Advanced Manufacturing Employment Levels Hit New Heights Across the Region

Advanced manufacturing employment across the region reached new heights in 2018 according to a report recently issued by LIFT.

Across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, there were nearly 2.7 million workers in lightweighting-related advanced manufacturing jobs in Q1 2018.

The quarterly reports, highlighting employment trends, top jobs, and required skills in advanced manufacturing through Q1 2018, are completed with research and analysis from the Workforce Intelligence Network of Southeast Michigan (WIN) and Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee, a region that’s home to more than 50 percent of the metalworking jobs in the country.

Across the region, employer demand for lightweighting-related skills, as measured by online job postings, also grew between Q4 2017 and Q1 2018:

  • By 17 percent in Tennessee with 9,445 job postings
  • By 2 percent in Ohio with 21,175 job postings
  • By 23 percent in Kentucky with 6,965 job postings
  • By nearly 15 percent in Indiana with 11,562 job postings

“Advanced manufacturing job demand has created an ever-growing need for talent in Tennessee and across the country,” said Emily DeRocco, education and workforce director, LIFT. “Addressing those workforce needs with advanced manufacturing education pathways will be key to our nation’s economic prosperity and national security.”
