LIFT at DMC

Once again, LIFT has a large presence at the annual Defense Manufacturing Conference – DMC 2017.
The conference annually hosts nearly 1,500 attendees from over 600 organizations working in the defense or manufacturing markets.

Including displaying a booth with the rest of the Department of Defense-sponsored Manufacturing USA institutes, LIFT staff and LIFT members had several opportunities to speak to attendees about the institute’s work.

Some of the LIFT presentations included:

  • Phil Chizek, LIFT Director of Business Development, highlighting the institute and how industry can collaborate
  • Larry Brown, LIFT Executive Director, provided an update on LIFT at the “Status of Manufacturing USA Institutes” session
  • During the Metals sessions, Dr. T.D. Huang, of Huntington Ingalls, discussed “ICME/Cost Models for Welding”; Austin Mann, of Boeing, discusses “ICME Linear Friction Welding”; and Brian Martinek, of Boeing, discusses “Incremental Sheet Forming” during the Metals session
  • Eileen Pickett, LIFT State Liaison spoke about LIFT’s Education and Workforce Development work, specifically the ongoing “Operation Next” program.

The LIFT booth was also visited by Eric Chewning, deputy assistant secretary of defense, manufacturing and industrial base policy. There he spoke with LIFT Executive Director Larry Brown about the work being done at the institute and the plans to move it toward sustainability.

Leaders from other Manufacturing USA institutes and the organization as a whole were featured on various panels and speaking opportunities as well.
