The Power of the Hollow: Using Hollow Aluminum Extrusions to Meet Engineering Challenges
Often when engineers are seeking to meet challenging applications for aluminum extrusions, they focus on alloy, opting for higher strength chemistries. Unfortunately, high strength alloys usually have some downsides – cost, difficulty holding tolerance, recycling challenges, etc.
This webinar will focus on an alternative, or at least a complement, to the alloy focus: the ability to design profiles that “put the metal where it is needed”. That’s advantageous when it comes to hollow shapes, particularly multi-void hollows, which can be engineered for crush resistance, strength, thermal management, light weight and more. This session will review some of the more interesting – and demanding – current applications of multi-void hollows in automotive and other markets, and discuss the alloy, design and processing considerations necessary to ensure success.
About AEC
The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) is an international trade association dedicated to advancing the effective use of aluminum extrusion in North America. AEC is committed to bringing comprehensive information about extrusion’s characteristics, applications, environmental benefits, design and technology to users, product designers, engineers and the academic community. Further, AEC is focused on enhancing the ability of its members to meet the emerging demands of the market through sharing knowledge and best practices.
