Just the Beginning…

It feels like it was long ago, but it was just last month that we had nearly 400 people in our Detroit headquarters to celebrate Manufacturing Day and the ribbon cutting of the LIFT and IACMI high bay.

It truly was an amazing day – from having 150 high school and middle school students engaging in STEM activities to standing next to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder as he cut the ribbon to officially open the high bay.

We could not have accomplished this goal without the help and support of our partners in government from the Department of Defense and Office of Naval Research to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the City of Detroit, to our equipment partners including Comau, Interlaken, Danielli, MTI and Hexagon.

We would not have been able to open the doors without the hard work of the LIFT staff, both here in Detroit and in locations offsite.

And we would not have this amazing facility without the support of our fellow Manufacturing USA institute, IACMI.

There are amazing things happening here in Detroit. The city is on the rebound and is becoming the hub for innovation in the automotive industry and around other technologies from connected and autonomous vehicles to new web startups popping up every day.

At LIFT, our goal is to play an integral role in Detroit’s rebound and to be at the core of its innovative spirit. This facility and our network of academic, engineering and workforce experts will help us do just that.

With the high bay ribbon officially cut and work beginning to come into the facility, you will soon begin to see more and more content coming from LIFT. We will begin a new blog series in the next few weeks, which will also translate into a more robust social media presence. We look forward to engaging with all of you in more and more ways going forward.

The interns are coming, the interns are coming!

Along with our roles of developing and transitioning lightweight metal solutions into the marketplace, we have a responsibility to serve as educators and prepare the manufacturing workforce of the future.
With that, we are proud to have announced the first phase of our internship program to begin in January 2018 with students from the University of Michigan and/or Wayne State University here in Detroit.
